Thing #14

After reading the info on Web 2.0 and Library 2.0 I concluded the 3 key aspects relating to libraries are:

1. Be proactive in spotting customer trends in technology and what they want.
2. Just because a new technology may be a new trend, it might not be the best for the library if the technology is not intuitive to use.
3. If the technology we implement requires too much staff instruction then we need to change the technology and not the customers.

Thing # 13

I explored delicious and conclude that it is an easy way to book mark sites. I explored the CML divisions delicious account and wondered this...would a customer rather use our homepage for our resources or go to delicious and look at our resources? I guess if someone wanted resources on a specific topic they could just look at all the sites related to that topic instead of having to look at all of our resources. I'm just used to going to the sites I need and think it would be an extra step to go through delicious.

Thing #12

I created a Twitter account and am following some people and Learn and Play. I couldn't add my picture, cause it was too big computer says (I didn't think my head was that big teehee). I really don't think I will tweet often. I talk to most of my friends in person or on phone. If I had friends spread all over the country or world, this might benefit me, but I'm pretty much local and see my friends regularly. Not sure how twitter would benefit library or customers. I realize the need for people to connect is strong, but why am I just not seeing the potential with this? My twitter ccount is under the name Doxiemoxie.

Thing #11

I sure hope this is my Library thing link above. It was easy to add books to my library, but I got a little lost trying to post it in my blog. I like the search box to find titles I couldn't quite remember...very quick and the list usually had the cover picture. I read blogs from others saying they like good reads better, but I haven't explored that yet.

I absolutely loved playing with image generators. I used Big Huge Labs Captioner to create this pic of my doxie and a stray cat we used to let in the house. Since this photo the cat is gone. Griffey, our doxie, chased the cat into the woods and was stomped by a deer. Needless to say the cat had to go, cause he was obsessed. I miss the cat, but Griffey literally almost killed himself to get at her.

Thing #9

I added feeds for Library stuff, Rsources shelf, and Shifted Librarian. I quite honestly didn't read anything ground breaking or that interesting on any of the sites. I don't see a need for me to look at these everyday. Anybody have any other Library sites that they like?

Thing #8

Bloglines. I signed up for it and chose some Rss feeds, but I doubt I will ever get back on again. I can't think of anything that I need daily updates about. As for what the library could use it for, ummmmm...

technology mosaic

This is my blog on technology. I actually created a mosiac which speaks volumes to me. Technology is a responsibility. It's a priviledge. It's a gift. It's necessary. It's scary. It's creating a whole new generation gap. It's closing a generation gap. It's here to stay, but not without changes everday!!

Griffey mosaic

Here is my attempt at using a flickr mashup tool. There were so many different mashups to choose from it was a little overwhelming. I used Big huge labs mosaic maker to make a mosaic of Griffey, my dachshund. If you were to ask me tomorrow how I did this I honestly don't know if I could answer. I did save a couple of these sites on my favorites though so I could try to go back and figure it out again later.
I have to say I would never, ever have discovered this on my own. Learn and Play is all about venturing out into the ever increasing world of communication. We ain't in Kansas anymore!!!

Doberman looking down on Dachshund

Thing #5:

Well, I did it. I explored flickr looking for what else...Dachshund photos!! I grew up with a Doberman and as an adult I have Dachshunds. I'm sure each one is thinking what happened to the other one!! I can't believe how much time I can spend looking at photos on flickr. I'll need to get a digital camera now and continue to play with this neat photo sharing site!
